Faizan Adil’s practice questions the power structures behind the creation and interpretation of images. His exploration of John Berger’s concept of image ambiguity, which posits that images gain meaning only through contextual understanding, forms the backbone of his artistic approach.
Faizan’s creative practices investigate the blurred lines between media ethics and contemporary art. By developing projects that resist easy categorization or interpretation, he encourages viewers to confront the limitations of visual representation in the modern world. His entirely self-funded work stands apart from the influence of capitalist agendas or propaganda-driven narratives, reflecting his commitment to independent creative expression. In this, he strives to preserve the integrity of art from the commodification that often accompanies institutional support.
Beyond his own photographic work, Faizan’s teaching and writing continue to reflect his core belief in the importance of critical engagement with both medium and message, fostering a deeper understanding of how visual cultures shape and are shaped by society.
